A dedicated group of bereaved fathers in Dudley have come together to bring comfort and dignity to families enduring the unimaginable pain of losing a baby. Sands United FC Dudley, a football team formed by dads who have experienced baby loss, has generously donated a privacy pram to Russells Hall Hospital.
The pram, officially handed over on July 1, provides a compassionate way for families to spend precious final moments with their babies. It offers a discreet, safe, and respectful means of transporting babies within the hospital, whether for a peaceful walk in the hospital gardens or the final journey to the mortuary.
Jake Hildred, the team’s manager and founder, explained the profound importance of the donation: “A privacy pram allows parents to share intimate moments with their baby in a way that’s dignified and compassionate during one of the hardest periods of their lives. As fathers who know this kind of heartbreak firsthand, we wanted to make a meaningful difference for families facing similar losses.”

Jake emphasized that while no one wishes for such a pram to ever be used, sadly, many families endure baby loss. “We hope this pram brings comfort and dignity when it’s needed most. Knowing it will be there to support families in their grief is something we are incredibly proud of,” he added.
The donation was made possible through the generosity of Kewford Eagles, who provided the funds to purchase the pram. Jake and Sands United FC Dudley extended their heartfelt gratitude to all supporters who helped make the donation a reality.
Founded in 2023 following Jake’s personal loss of his daughter Eveleigh, Sands United FC Dudley offers grieving fathers a local community where they can find understanding and support. The team meets weekly at Rowley Learning Campus for football, conversation, and mutual encouragement, proving that no one has to face grief alone.
