Ben Davies Joins Bolton Wanderers After Championship Success with Birmingham City

Ben Davies, a key figure in Birmingham City’s record-breaking League One title-winning campaign, has signed a two-year contract with newly promoted Championship side Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old defender saw his contract with Rangers expire at the end of this month and has now committed to Bolton as he looks forward to a fresh start. Davies brings valuable Championship experience, having spent last season on loan at Oxford United, despite limited appearances.

Davies was a stalwart of Birmingham City’s remarkable 2024/25 campaign, making 44 appearances and forming a formidable defensive partnership with captain Christoph Klarer. Their efforts helped Blues shatter the EFL points record and secure automatic promotion.

Although Birmingham City showed interest in re-signing Davies last summer, the move did not materialize, leading the club to strengthen their defense with signings of Eiran Cashin and Jack Robinson.

Excited about his move to Bolton, Davies said: “It feels brilliant to be here. I heard about interest from a few clubs, but as soon as I knew Bolton were interested, this was the club I wanted to come to. It’s going to be exciting times back in the Championship after an excellent year last season. I’ve seen that the average attendance last year was over 20,000, and that was a massive pull for me.

“I think my Championship experience can help the team on and off the pitch. I’ve met with the gaffer and I like his outlook on football and how he wants to play.”

With this signing, Bolton Wanderers have strengthened their defense ahead of the new Championship season, while Davies prepares to face his former club Birmingham City in what promises to be a compelling clash.
