Beloved ‘Gentle Giant’ Pub Chef Dies After Rare Gangrene Infection

Scott Reynolds, a much-loved pub chef from Wolverhampton, has died after a seemingly minor cut on his leg developed into a rare and aggressive form of gangrene. The 47-year-old’s condition worsened despite treatment, eventually leading to sepsis, organ failure, and his death just days after Christmas last year.

Friends remember Scott as a “gentle giant” standing 6ft 6in tall, with a kind heart and a tough spirit. Lisa Greenway, a close friend, described him as a “tough cookie” who rarely showed how ill he truly was. Scott’s infection first appeared four years ago and, despite ongoing medical care, returned with greater severity this time.

Scott was a fixture in local pubs around Perton, including The Pear and Partridge and The Wrottesley Arms, until his health forced him to stop working. Over 100 people attended his funeral, a testament to the high regard in which he was held by friends, family, and the community.

Beyond his pub career, Scott was known for his passions and unique personality. He was a creative artist, painting Warhammer 40k and Blood Bowl miniatures, and a devoted fan of the band Insane Clown Posse, proudly sporting a signature “juggalo running man” tattoo. Star Wars was another of his loves, earning him the affectionate nickname “wookiee” among friends.

Scott’s interests extended to spicy food, Liverpool Football Club, and collecting trainers and memorabilia. Despite his outgoing nature, he was deeply loyal to his friends and godchildren, treating them as family. His friends and loved ones provided support throughout his illness, staying by his side until the end.

A GoFundMe page set up in Scott’s memory has raised over £2,500, covering funeral expenses and contributing toward a memorial plaque at Bushbury Crematorium in Wolverhampton. Lisa and her husband Asa hope to donate any remaining funds to a local charity supporting teenagers in crisis, honoring Scott’s own struggles during his youth.

Currently, efforts are underway to locate members of Scott’s family believed to be living in Alicante, Spain, who may be unaware of his passing.

Friends, family, and the wider community continue to mourn the loss of this extraordinary man, whose warmth and spirit touched countless lives.
