Beloved Dad Diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer After Initial Doctor Dismissal

Matt Green, a devoted father and drainage engineer from Stourbridge, faced a devastating cancer diagnosis after a lump in his neck was initially dismissed by a doctor as ‘nothing to worry about.’

Concerned by persistent swelling in his neck, Matt sought medical advice and was told that his lymph nodes were just swollen and that he could carry on as normal. However, when the lumps did not go away after nearly a year, he turned to a second doctor who took his symptoms seriously and ordered urgent tests.

On August 6, Matt received the difficult news: he had stage 3 lymph node cancer that had already spread to his chest. Now 34 years old, he has begun chemotherapy and is enduring months of intensive treatment.

In support of Matt and his family, a close family friend, Chloe Mapstone from Redditch, helped establish a GoFundMe page to ease their financial strain and ensure Matt’s wife, Robyn, and their two young children can still enjoy a special Christmas together despite these hardships.

Chloe shared, “Matt’s initial doctor told him the lumps were swollen lymph nodes and nothing to worry about. But after a year without improvement, the second doctor quickly recognized the seriousness and sent him for tests.”

She added, “Matt was aware the news wouldn’t be good, and when diagnosed, doctors advised starting chemotherapy immediately. He’s now undergoing treatment that will continue for months.”

Chloe’s partner, Aaron, who works alongside Matt, was moved to help the family and prompted Chloe to create the fundraising page, which has already raised nearly £4,000.

“The income loss from statutory sick pay compared to Matt’s normal wages is a huge blow to the family,” Chloe explained. “We want to give them as much support as possible to make this Christmas brighter.”

The GoFundMe description reads: “Matt, a loving father, cherished friend, and devoted son, was dealt a cruel blow with a stage 3 lymph node cancer diagnosis at just 34. As he fights this battle, his family faces an uncertain future. Let’s unite to provide joy and comfort for Matt, Robyn, their children, and his parents this Christmas. Your generosity will create unforgettable moments in a challenging time.”
