For many years, families have travelled from across the region to experience the joyful Christmas lights display at a Stourport-on-Severn home, generously created by volunteer Nick Wright.
Nick has decorated his property with over 30,000 lights, organising large festive and Halloween events that have become a cherished local tradition.
Recently, Nick announced his decision to sell his three-bedroom detached home on Malham Road but is keen to see his festive legacy continue. He is offering to leave all of his extensive lighting equipment and infrastructure to the new owner, inviting them to carry on the beloved Stourport Lights show.

“After 25 wonderful years, I’ve decided to sell my lovely home,” Nick, who also volunteers as a guard, shunter and signalman at the Severn Valley Railway, said. “I’ve absolutely loved the garden, the solar panels providing free hot water, and putting up the Christmas Lights. I’m going to miss it so much. It’s officially on the market, and the new owner is welcome to carry on Stourport Lights as I can leave all the equipment.”
Over the years, Nick has raised thousands of pounds for the Severn Valley Railway by inviting visitors to make donations towards restoring heritage steam trains and carriages. Having run the event for six years before taking a break in 2025, he acknowledges the considerable time needed to set up, operate, and dismantle the display each season.
“Each year, it takes a lot of time to put the lights up, change them for different themes, and then take them down again,” he said. “My neighbours have been very understanding over the years given the amount of extra traffic.”
However, the sale of his home does not mean the end of Nick’s festive displays. He plans to move to nearby Bewdley, still in Worcestershire, where he hopes to reinstate his Christmas light show.
Spectators have enjoyed extensive 90-minute shows synchronised to a wide range of music, from traditional hymns such as “Angels from the Realms of Glory” to Disney-inspired performances like “Fantasmic,” as well as popular Christmas songs and contemporary pop hits from artists including Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.
Nick also organised sensory-friendly displays on Sundays with gentle lighting and no accompanying music, and often continued shows until Boxing Day.
The property, listed at £325,000, includes solar panels that help reduce electricity bills, an electric vehicle charger, an integral garage, and a private rear garden.
Nick emphasises the importance of charitable support for heritage railways: “A steam train’s boiler requires an overhaul every 10 years, and restoring a locomotive can cost over £250,000. Every donation helps this valuable cause.”
