Balderton Lake, located in New Balderton near Newark, Nottinghamshire, was closed on Thursday afternoon, May 28, following a serious water incident involving a man entering the lake.

Balderton Parish Council released a statement emphasizing the closure: “Balderton Lake is currently closed due to an ongoing incident. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed the call-out at 2:35 pm and reiterated the ongoing presence of emergency personnel at the site. They strongly advise the public to keep clear of the vicinity to allow efficient management of the incident.

This incident follows a recent warning issued on May 26 by the council after multiple reports of people swimming and paddling in the lake. The council highlighted the dangers of entering open water, especially Balderton Lake, due to cold water shock risks and the potential harm to local wildlife.

The warning read: “While warmer weather tempts many to cool off in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, these bodies of water can be dangerously cold and unpredictable. Entering open water is strictly prohibited to safeguard your health and protect the environment. Please refrain from swimming or paddling in Balderton Lake.”

Residents and visitors are urged to respect these warnings and maintain a safe distance from Balderton Lake until authorities declare it safe to return.
