Aston Villa Face Injury Setback as Matty Cash Leaves Field During Chelsea Defeat

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has confirmed that right-back Matty Cash sustained an injury during the club’s recent Premier League clash against Chelsea. Cash was forced to leave the pitch at half-time due to a calf problem and will undergo a scan to determine the extent of his injury.

Cash, who had missed prior matches against Brighton and Newcastle United with a minor knee issue, had returned to start the last three games. His early substitution in the Chelsea match was a blow to Villa’s defensive line.

Replacing Cash at the start of the second half was Lamare Bogarde, who may be called upon to start in the upcoming Europa League first-leg fixture against Lille in France.

Speaking about Cash’s condition, Emery said, “We will check him tomorrow. We will do a scan. Hopefully it’s not a long absence. He had some doubts about his calf.”

The match itself proved challenging for Villa. Despite an early goal from Douglas Luiz in the fourth minute, Chelsea turned the game around before half-time through Joao Pedro. Chelsea extended their lead with a goal from Cole Palmer, and Pedro secured his hat-trick as Villa endured a difficult night, following last week’s 2-0 defeat to bottom club Wolves. The defeat leaves Villa just three points ahead of Chelsea in the league standings, after missing a chance to extend their lead.
