Asda has issued a final reminder to shoppers aged over 60 to take advantage of its £1 meal deal, available at over 200 locations nationwide, before it ends on February 28. Launched in November, the Winter Warmer café deal lets customers choose a comforting tomato or chicken soup paired with bread and enjoy unlimited tea or coffee — all for just £1.
This initiative, offered at 212 Asda cafés across the UK including stores in Birmingham, aims to provide not only affordable meals but also a welcoming social space for older shoppers. Jordan Cummings, Asda’s buying manager for cafés and concessions, encourages eligible customers to visit soon and benefit from the offer.
In addition to affordability, Asda’s Community Champions are actively inviting local groups and individuals over 60 to use the Winter Warmer meal deal as an opportunity to connect with others and combat loneliness. Last year, Asda’s Christmas community research revealed that many older people experience social isolation during the festive season, with one in ten unsure if they would speak to anyone between December 15th and January 1st. Some even visit supermarkets just to interact with others.

Cummings emphasized the deal’s dual purpose: “With cold weather continuing and many pensioners facing financial pressures, we want to offer a hot, affordable meal and a relaxed environment to encourage social interaction.”
This year’s campaign has made a meaningful impact by helping seniors manage costs while fostering community connections in an inviting setting.
