Amazon Pay Rise

Amazon announces pay rise for thousands of Sutton Coldfield workers

Amazon has revealed a pay increase for its frontline operations employees across the UK, with starting annual salaries now set at a minimum of £31,408. This adjustment means that in certain areas, including the Sutton Coldfield fulfilment centre, the minimum wage will rise to £33,488.

The minimum hourly pay for frontline staff will increase by up to 5.6% to £15.10, or by 5.2% to £16.10 per hour depending on location. These changes will take effect from 27 September 2026.

Over the past year, Amazon’s minimum starting pay has gone up by 80p per hour and has risen by 44% since 2022. This pay increase will benefit tens of thousands of frontline employees throughout the UK.

John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager, commented: “Our frontline teams are the backbone of our business, and this pay increase reflects that commitment. Starting salaries now exceed £31,000 a year, and we will keep investing in our people because they deserve it.

“However, pay is only one aspect of what makes Amazon a great place to work. We provide comprehensive benefits and genuine opportunities for advancement. We want every employee to feel valued from the moment they join. Whether starting their first job or building a long-term career, there is a path for everyone here.”

Beyond the pay rise, Amazon offers a wide range of benefits. From 1 October, employees will receive 10% off eligible online groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.co.uk, including fresh groceries, cleaning products, nappies, and pet food, with no cap on savings. Other benefits include private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, subsidised meals, employee discounts (including free Prime membership), and a company pension scheme available from day one.

Amazon also supports career growth through its Career Choice programme, which covers 100% of skills development costs for nationally recognised courses, up to £3,000 annually. This support is available whether the training advances an employee’s career at Amazon or elsewhere. Since its launch in the UK in 2014, over 30,000 employees have participated. In June, Amazon announced a £800 million global investment in this programme.

This announcement follows Amazon’s commitment to invest £40 billion in the UK from 2025 to 2027 - the company’s largest investment outside of the United States. To date, more than £15 billion has already been invested.
