All the Birmingham Roads Now Enforced with 30mph Speed Limits

Birmingham has introduced new 30mph speed limits on more than two dozen roads, marking a significant change for local drivers. Previously set at 40mph on many main routes, these lowered limits aim to improve road safety across the city.

According to council officials, nearly all roads in Birmingham now have a maximum speed limit of 30mph, reinforcing the city’s commitment to safer streets. Drivers who are accustomed to higher limits, especially on wider roads, should be particularly vigilant as the new restrictions take effect.

Alongside the lowered limits, new speed cameras are being installed at various locations to help enforce compliance. Police will also increase speed monitoring on these routes to ensure drivers adhere to the updated regulations.

Clear signage has been erected on all affected roads to alert motorists about the changes. Some of the busiest roads impacted include sections of the A34 Walsall Road, A38 Bristol Road South, and A456 Hagley Road West.

Cllr Majid Mahmood, Birmingham City Council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, emphasized the urgency of these changes: “When we declared a road safety emergency, we promised to take action and this is what is happening. Our message here is simple: Slower is safer. Stick to speed limits and save lives."

This initiative represents a major step towards creating safer travel conditions throughout Birmingham by encouraging more responsible driving speeds.
