All 103 Areas Under 10-Hour Met Office Warning as UK Prepares for Snow and Ice

The UK is bracing for a significant spell of wintry weather this week as the Met Office issues a 10-hour yellow weather warning for ice across 103 areas of the country.

Starting from midnight until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, many regions will experience patchy ice forming on roads and pavements due to dropping temperatures. This alert follows the recent impact of Storm Chandra, which brought heavy rain and strong winds to parts of the UK.

Met Office chief forecaster Paul Gundersen warned of multiple hazards linked to the storm: “Storm Chandra will bring a range of dangers through Monday night and Tuesday. The Isles of Scilly, western Cornwall, and southwest Wales remain at risk of severe wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph, especially after recent storms. Additionally, heavy rainfall on already saturated ground in Dorset, southern Devon, Somerset, and Cornwall increases flood risks.”

Further north, colder air interacting with the storm system could lead to snow, with accumulations of 10-20 cm expected over higher ground in the Pennines, southern Scotland, and the Scottish Highlands.

“This complex weather situation means it is vital for residents to stay informed about forecasts and heed any warnings issued for their specific areas,” Gundersen added.

The extensive weather warning covers major cities and counties across England, Scotland, and Wales including Greater London, Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and many more.

As communities prepare for challenging travel and outdoor conditions, the Met Office urges caution and advises that people check local updates regularly.
