Holden’s brewery, a name already beloved across the Black Country for its delicious range of beers like the iconic Golden Glow, has expanded its charm beyond just brewing. Nestled in Bridgnorth High Street stands The Golden Lion Inn, a 17th-century coaching inn refreshed and reopened by Holden’s in 2017, now offering guests a warm and cozy bed and breakfast experience.
Walking through the golden-hued doors, the pub instantly felt welcoming—its cozy atmosphere mirroring the comforting warmth of a well-poured pint on a chilly evening. The friendly staff greeted me and led me to the Shropshire Suite at the back, one of several inviting guest rooms, each with its own private parking accessed via a quaint medieval lane. The suite was tastefully dressed in the signature Holden’s green, enhancing the local spirit of the place.
Though my evening was brief due to plans for Bridgnorth’s famed ghost tour, I couldn’t resist returning to savor a pint of Golden Glow alongside a soft, hearty ham cob. The beer was as refreshing as expected—crisp and clear, an ideal companion to the comforting pub fare.

What truly stood out, however, was the breakfast. Guests pre-order from a menu selecting their preferred feast and breakfast time between 8am and 10am. Mine arrived soon after I joined the other diners in the intimate dining room—an impressive plate overflowing with bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, and black pudding. Toast, butter, jam, and plenty of tea, coffee, and orange juice complemented the meal perfectly.
After a night exploring Bridgnorth’s steep hills, this hearty breakfast was exactly what I needed. Throughout my stay, the straightforward, friendly service embodied the bostin' charm the Black Country is known for. Staying locally allowed me to fully appreciate the region’s offerings, right at my doorstep.
