A Day in the Life of a BirminghamLive Photographer: Nick Wilkinson’s Story

Nick Wilkinson, a seasoned BirminghamLive photographer, offers a unique glimpse into his day-to-day life through captivating videos that follow him on every assignment. Covering the vast expanse of the West Midlands, Nick’s work ranges from photographing lively eateries to documenting serious crime scenes.

Motivated to share the reality behind his lens, Nick has joined the growing number of BirminghamLive staff creating content on TikTok. His videos are fast-paced highlights of his day, filmed using a body cam worn throughout his shifts. These clips provide audiences with an authentic look into the unpredictable nature of his role.

At 50 years old, Nick explains, “I had been considering this for a while, and with TikTok becoming a major platform for BirminghamLive, now felt like the right time. I believe the job is fascinating, and I want to show people what it’s really like. Some videos come from my interactions—both positive and negative—and I aim to keep things honest and unfiltered.”

When asked to describe a typical day, Nick finds it challenging. “It’s hard to put into words. Often, you’re waiting quietly, but suddenly everything shifts, and the day goes from slow to hectic. You could be sitting outside a courthouse, and then an unexpected event changes everything,” he explains. “I wanted my videos to reflect that variety and unpredictability.”
