86-Year-Old Man Arrested Following Fatal Hit-and-Run in Stoke-on-Trent

An 86-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a woman in her 70s in Stoke-on-Trent.

The tragic accident occurred just after 8 a.m. on Friday, 12 December, at the junction of South Drive near Carmountside Crematorium and Leek Road in Milton. The pedestrian victim was struck by a small blue-grey car that fled the scene, heading toward Abbey Hulton.

Despite being rushed to hospital, the woman succumbed to her injuries shortly after the collision. Staffordshire Police launched an urgent investigation and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

On Saturday, 13 December, police announced the arrest of an 86-year-old local man on suspicion of causing death by careless and inconsiderate driving, failing to stop after a road accident, and failing to report the accident. The suspect was questioned in custody and subsequently bailed as inquiries continue.

Staffordshire Police issued a statement expressing their condolences and highlighting the ongoing support being offered to the victim’s family by specially trained officers. They also urged anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them via telephone or live chat, quoting incident number 129 of 12 December.

The force reassured the community that the investigation remains a priority and thanked those who have already provided information.
