£364 Home Insurance Premium Gap Revealed Among UK Job Titles

Go Compare has highlighted a striking £364 difference in median annual home insurance premiums across various UK job titles. For example, warehouse packers pay a median premium of £155, whereas investment managers face considerably higher costs at £519.

Their research reveals that professionals such as investment bankers pay around £518, barristers £477, surgeons £463, and finance directors £404. In comparison, roles like account directors pay a median of £338, account managers £269, and account executives £292.

Tamzin Metcalfe, a home insurance specialist at Go Compare, stresses the importance of honesty when declaring job titles on insurance applications. She states, “Misrepresenting your job title is not just ambiguous—it’s fraud. This can lead to serious consequences, including policy cancellation, claim refusal, or being blacklisted from obtaining cover in the future.”

Home insurance protects your property and belongings from risks such as fire, flooding, storms, and theft. Whether you own your home or rent and insure your contents, having the right coverage could save you from significant losses.

Metcalfe advises policyholders to regularly review their job information on insurance documents. “Ask yourself if someone familiar with your job would agree with how you’ve described it. If the answer is yes, you’re in the clear. But if you’ve had a promotion, changed careers, or adjusted your working hours since your last renewal, update your details. Accuracy ensures your insurance remains valid.”

Furthermore, the best policy depends on your living situation—whether you own, rent, or are a landlord—making it essential to select coverage tailored to your needs.
