27,000 Parking Fines Issued on Birmingham’s Infamous Alum Rock Road

Over the past three years, traffic wardens have issued an astonishing 27,000 parking fines on Alum Rock Road, one of Birmingham’s most notorious trouble spots for parking enforcement. Known locally as a “nightmare” for drivers, this busy thoroughfare has consistently seen chaotic parking as motorists compete for limited spaces.

Alum Rock Road has long held the unenviable reputation as the city’s worst area for parking offences. Infractions typically include ignoring double yellow lines, overstaying time limits, and failing to pay parking charges. In some cases, vehicles have even been abandoned on pavements, obstructing pedestrians and local residents.

Data obtained from ParkAppeal reveals a rising trend in fines: from 5,993 in the financial year 2023/24 to over 11,000 in 2025/26, totaling 27,021 fines over three years. While Alum Rock remains a leading hotspot, a recent investigation found Stratford Road in Sparkhill has now surpassed it in parking violations, highlighting ongoing challenges across Birmingham.

Alum Rock Road runs east from Birmingham’s city centre through Saltley, featuring a mix of shops, businesses, and residential streets. This combination draws heavy traffic and parking demand, especially during peak hours, often resulting in congestion and fierce competition for parking spots.
