22 English counties likely to avoid next UK snow bomb delivering up to 38 inches – full list

Nearly half of England is expected to escape the upcoming snow bomb forecast to batter parts of the UK with temperatures plunging to -12C and snowfalls reaching up to 38 inches. The significant weather event is predicted to begin around February 7, but its impact will vary widely across the country.

Met Desk data, as depicted in WX Charts' models, forecasts deteriorating weather conditions starting on February 7, primarily affecting Scotland and northern and midland regions of England. Crucially, counties south of the West Midlands appear poised to avoid the worst of the snow.

Those likely to be spared include Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex. Additional unaffected areas span Kent, Wiltshire, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, the Isle of Wight, and Greater London.

Scotland faces the harshest conditions, with snowfall possibly accumulating to around one meter (38 inches). The Met Office outlook from February 8 onwards highlights continued unsettled weather driven by Atlantic frontal systems, with wetter and windier conditions more frequent in central and southern England. By contrast, the north and northwest are expected to remain drier but colder, increasing the risk of wintry hazards where wet weather collides with frigid air.

In the immediate term, the Met Office forecast for Sunday, January 25, predicts cloudy skies with rain and heavy showers in many areas, including hill snow over northeast Scotland. Lighter winds will prevail compared to the previous day, though wintry showers and patchy fog are expected, especially in northeastern and southeastern England. A deep low-pressure system will bring rain, showers, possible hill snow, and strong winds by Tuesday, contributing to a cold and unsettled spell nationwide.
