£200 Bonus Payments Available for Universal Credit, PIP, and Pension Credit Claimants

Individuals receiving benefits such as Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and Pension Credit could be eligible for additional financial support through the Household Support Fund (HSF). This funding is provided by the Government and distributed by local councils to assist low-income households facing difficulty paying for essentials.

The HSF is designed to offer urgent financial aid for expenses like food, gas, electricity, and other necessities. Local authorities receive government funding to support those most in need, prioritizing applications from vulnerable residents experiencing financial hardship. While anyone can apply via their council’s website, priority is given to individuals struggling to make ends meet.

Payments differ across councils. For example, Birmingham City Council is offering grants of up to £200. The scheme will run until current funding is exhausted, with a planned extension and top-up from April, when the fund will transition to the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).

Council assistance may also include food vouchers for families during school holidays. Importantly, receiving support from the Household Support Fund does not affect eligibility for existing benefits, and you don’t have to be on benefits to apply.

Anyone who finds it challenging to cover essential costs is encouraged to check with their local council about available support.
