18 Parts of England Set to Face Snowstorm on Wednesday and Thursday, Says Met Office

Forecasters have identified 18 parts of England expected to experience snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Snow maps highlight blizzards extending as far south as Plymouth, with temperatures plunging to a bitter -9°C in some areas.

WX Charts data, combined with Met Office and advanced GFS modeling, shows much of the UK blanketed in snow. Scotland will see widespread coverage, particularly across the Highlands, while several towns and cities in the Midlands, including Birmingham, Leicester, Derby, Nottingham, and Sheffield, are also braced for snowfall.

On Wednesday, snow is forecast across the North East and Midlands, with early morning flurries spreading to the east of England. Areas such as Cumbria, Northumberland, Durham, and Yorkshire will experience intensifying snow showers. By midday, the Scottish Highlands—especially the Cairngorms region between Inverness and Aberdeen—could see snow depths of up to 20cm. Northern England’s North East and Northern Midlands are also likely to receive fresh snow accumulation.

The Met Office provides this outlook: “Rain and wet snow will clear southeastwards in the morning, followed by dry and brighter conditions with sunny spells. Frequent wintry showers will persist along exposed coastal areas due to the cold northerly winds, with heavy snow in higher grounds. Blustery snow showers will continue, causing some accumulations, especially over high terrain, while other areas will experience dry, clear skies and widespread frost.”

For Thursday, the forecast states: “Sunny intervals with wintry showers, particularly along some North Sea coasts, with showers gradually easing through the day and winds becoming lighter. It will remain cold with a widespread overnight frost.”

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Met Office anticipates: “Rain and cloud will spread in from the west on Friday and Saturday, accompanied by gradually rising temperatures. Sunday will likely see further rain outbreaks but with occasional brighter spells.”
