From 1 April 2026, households in England with driveways will benefit from an increased grant to help install electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints. The Labour Party has raised the financial support available for both home and workplace EV chargers, increasing the grant from £350 to up to £500 per socket.
This increase is part of ongoing efforts to make EV charging more accessible and affordable across the UK. The enhanced grants will be available until March 2027 and could cover nearly half the typical cost of installing a charger for eligible households, businesses, landlords, and organisations.
For fleets and workplace charging, the higher funding will help employers reduce upfront costs as they transition to electric vehicles, facilitating broader adoption in the commercial sector.

Ben Beadle, chief executive of the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA), welcomed the announcement, stating that it would boost confidence among landlords and tenants to switch to electric vehicles. He noted that almost nine in ten landlords with suitable properties would install EV charge points if requested by tenants.
He added: “Given landlords' willingness to provide these facilities, we welcome the Government’s plans to encourage more widespread installation across the sector. We urge landlords to take advantage of the grants where feasible.”
Eligible applicants include those who own and live in a flat or rent and live in any residential property, including shared ownership schemes. Applicants must own an eligible electric vehicle and have private off-street parking at their home. Properties must be located in England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland. Properties in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man are not eligible for this grant.
