14 English Counties Set to Avoid Upcoming UK Snowstorm Starting Tuesday

New weather maps from WX Charts, which uses data from Met Desk, have identified the areas of the UK expected to be hit by snowfall starting early Tuesday, January 27. According to the latest ECMWF snow forecasts, snow will begin falling shortly after midnight, primarily impacting regions such as Stoke on Trent, Manchester, Liverpool, and parts of Scotland.

By 9 a.m., snowfall is forecast to extend to Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area, with northern Wales experiencing snow by mid-afternoon. Despite this widespread coverage, 14 counties in England will largely escape the snow’s impact. Areas including Greater London, Kent, Sussex, Norfolk, Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Surrey, Dorset, and Cornwall are expected to remain snow-free.

The BBC Weather team explains that a high-pressure system will attempt to expand from Scandinavia across northern parts of the UK. However, Atlantic low-pressure systems will keep conditions changeable through the week, with temperatures fluctuating between mild air from the southwest and colder air coming from the east and northeast. Overall, temperatures are expected to hover near or just below average in the north and east, while parts of the south and east may experience temperatures slightly above average.

South-east to easterly winds will bring a chill effect, especially near the eastern coasts. The upcoming weekend will be blustery, with intermittent showers including some wintry precipitation over northern hills and mountains. More widespread rain is expected across parts of England and Wales.

Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures will begin to drop with largely drier conditions, at least temporarily. A band of rain is expected to move into western and southwestern areas later in the day, pushing north and east overnight into Tuesday. This will bring snow mainly over higher ground in northern Wales, northern England, and Scotland.

Later in the week, another weather front may bring additional rain and hill snow from the southwest, accompanied by brighter and more showery conditions before and after the event.
