12 English Counties Expected to Receive Up to 3 Inches of Snow by Week’s End

A significant snowfall event is forecast for 12 counties across England before the week concludes. WX Charts, utilizing data from Met Desk and based on the GFS weather model, indicates that areas predominantly in southern England will begin experiencing snow from Tuesday, November 18.

While Scotland is expected to see the heaviest snowfall, northern England is not exempt from winter’s reach. Snow accumulations could reach up to 9cm (approximately 3 inches) in the Pennines, with even heavier falls—around 18cm—anticipated north of the Scottish border.

The counties anticipated to receive snowfall include Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Kent, Cornwall, Norfolk, and Suffolk. These regions will likely see varying degrees of snow, from light dustings to more substantial accumulations.

The Met Office issued a forecast for Monday evening, November 17, stating: “Showers easing to leave a mostly dry night with clear spells. A widespread frost, with icy patches. However, turning breezy, and less cold in the northwest, with rain and snow.”

Looking toward Tuesday, November 18: “A bright, frosty start for many. However, rain in the northwest extending southeast to all parts through the day, with some snow, especially in the north. Breezy and feeling cold.”

Midweek forecasts from Wednesday to Friday suggest: “Early rain and snow clearing on Wednesday, leaving very cold northerly winds with sunshine and wintry showers. Overnight frost and ice. Rain and hill snow arriving in the west later Friday.”

An early outlook for Christmas reflects a degree of uncertainty but suggests a higher chance than usual for persistent weather patterns. This may bring a mix of wet days, widespread rain or showers, and the possibility of snow, especially on higher ground in northern areas. Drier spells with frosty nights and fog are also expected, with temperatures hovering near average but with potential for colder periods during prolonged settled weather.

Residents across the affected counties should prepare for wintery conditions and stay updated on local forecasts as snow begins to fall.
