10 Birmingham Areas with Lowest Crime Rates Where Residents Feel Safe

Birmingham, a bustling city with a large and diverse population, does face its share of crime challenges. However, the common perception that the entire city struggles with high crime rates doesn’t tell the full story.

Like any major city, Birmingham has neighbourhoods with varying levels of safety. While some areas face difficulties, others are known for being more affluent, secure, and desirable places to live.

For families and individuals prioritizing safety, crime rates play a crucial role in their choice of where to settle. Although no area is completely free from crime, there are parts of Birmingham where residents rarely need to worry about violent or sexual offences.

By analysing local police data from the 12 months leading to December, we identified the areas with the lowest recorded violent and sexual crime rates. Unsurprisingly, the top three safest neighbourhoods are all located in Sutton Coldfield, one of the city’s most affluent districts. These include Four Oaks, New Hall, and Vesey.

Among them, Four Oaks stands out with the lowest crime rate, recording just 347 serious offences over the year—averaging less than one incident per day. This is in stark contrast to the city’s most violent areas like Lozells and East Handsworth, which reported 2,349 offences during the same period.

Other neighbourhoods with low crime rates include Hall Green, Nechells, and Chelmsley Wood. While some of these areas vary in size, and smaller populations can influence crime statistics, the data provides valuable insight into where safety concerns are less pronounced.

Residents in these peaceful parts of Birmingham enjoy a quality of life where worries about violent crime are significantly diminished, making them preferred choices for those seeking security and tranquillity in the city.
