1 in 3 Adults Plan to Change Jobs Within the Next Year

A recent government poll has revealed that 39 percent of working-age adults in England and Wales intend to change jobs within the next 12 months. Conducted by the Ministry of Justice, the survey also found that a striking 78 percent of these jobseekers are motivated by finding roles where they can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy is calling on job seekers to “help keep Britain safe” through a new Government recruitment campaign. The Ministry of Justice’s ‘Extraordinary Job’ initiative highlights career opportunities in the prison and probation services, emphasizing the unique challenges, team spirit, and daily rewards these roles offer.

Lammy emphasizes that many workers today desire more than just a paycheck—they want purpose. In prison and probation services, that purpose is clear: assisting individuals to rebuild their lives, lowering reoffending rates, and enhancing community safety.

“Prison and probation officers do some of the most critical yet often underappreciated work in the country,” Lammy explains. “They offer second chances and prevent future victims. For anyone seeking a new career path this year, I encourage you to consider one of these extraordinary professions. You’ll be making a real and lasting difference where it counts.”
