Rachel Reeves Empowers Drivers with New Fuel Finder Tool Amid Rising Petrol and Diesel Prices

As petrol and diesel prices surge amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Iran, Labour Party Chancellor Rachel Reeves is equipping drivers with a new tool to ease the financial burden. Reeves has called on motorists to utilize the government’s newly launched Fuel Finder app, designed to help drivers identify the most affordable fuel stations nearby.

With prices now at their highest levels in over two years, the Chancellor emphasized her commitment to protecting family budgets. “My priority is shielding household finances and standing up for drivers – and Fuel Finder empowers them by providing clear information on where fuel is cheapest locally,” Reeves stated. “This allows drivers to avoid paying inflated prices and continue filling up their vehicles as usual.”

Industry voices have underscored the urgency of further government action. Howard Cox, founder of a motorists’ advocacy group, urged officials to freeze fuel duty throughout this parliamentary term to prevent additional price hikes.

Meanwhile, RAC head of policy Simon Williams highlighted the sharp price increases. “Average petrol prices have climbed to 152p per litre—the highest in 28 months—while diesel has topped 180p, reaching 181.2p, a level not seen since December 2022,” Williams explained. “Since the onset of the Iran conflict, it now costs over £10 more to fill a typical petrol family car and over £21 more for a diesel equivalent.”

Williams added that the financial strain is intensifying for the majority of motorists who rely heavily on their vehicles, especially diesel drivers facing steeper costs. He encouraged drivers to keep filling up as usual while utilizing free tools like the myRAC app to find the best fuel prices available.

As prices continue to climb, the Fuel Finder tool offers a practical means for drivers to regain control amid uncertainty and soaring costs.
