Major UK High Street Chain Closes All Stores for Three Days Over Christmas

Home Bargains has announced that all of its UK stores will be closed for three full days over the Christmas period, making it one of the major high street chains to take a firm stand on holiday hours. The retailer will close its doors on Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25), Boxing Day (Friday, December 26), and New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1). Additionally, stores will shut earlier than usual at 5pm on Christmas Eve to allow staff extra time with their families.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Home Bargains thanked its employees for their hard work throughout the year and emphasized the importance of giving them time to relax during the festive season. A spokesperson explained, “As a family-run business, we understand the value of spending quality time with loved ones, especially during the holidays. We’re proud to offer our teams this extended break as a token of appreciation.”

The decision highlights the retailer’s commitment to its workforce, setting it apart from some others that remain open during key holiday dates. Under UK trading laws, large stores over 280 square metres may open on Sundays but are restricted to six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm. They are also required to close on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. Stores must clearly display their Sunday trading hours both inside and outside.
