Christopher Eccleston, famed for his role as the Ninth Doctor in the 2005 revival of Doctor Who, has publicly apologized to fans after failing to attend the Flux convention in Birmingham this weekend. The three-day event, held at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, celebrates the beloved BBC series and was set to feature former Doctors including Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa.
Eccleston was scheduled to appear on Saturday, March 14, as part of the guest lineup promoted by Starfury Conventions. However, in a message shared via Instagram, the 62-year-old actor revealed that he had not received payment as outlined in his contract and had not heard back from the event organizers despite his efforts to clarify the situation.
Addressing his disappointed fans, Eccleston stated: “I was hoping to meet everyone at the Flux convention on Saturday in Birmingham. I am available, not working, not ill, and not indisposed, but I haven’t been paid as per the contract. I want to give you a personal apology. No explanation has been given as to why I’ve not been paid. Anyone who has paid to meet me is entitled to a full refund, so please contact the convention for an explanation. I’ve tried reaching out myself but have heard nothing back. I’m really sorry not to see you all, but I’ll see you down the road.”
