DWP PIP Rates Increase from April 6: Claimants to Receive Up to £371 Extra Annually

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to raise Personal Independence Payment (PIP) rates starting April 6, offering a financial boost to individuals living with disabilities or long-term illnesses. Claimants can expect notable increases in weekly payments designed to help cover the additional costs associated with their conditions.

From April 6, the daily living component of PIP will rise as follows: the standard rate will increase from £73.90 to £76.70 per week, and the enhanced rate will go up from £110.40 to £114.60. Similarly, the mobility component will see a rise, with the standard rate increasing to £30.30 and the enhanced rate to £80.00 weekly.

This adjustment means that individuals receiving both enhanced daily living and mobility components could receive up to £194 per week, which amounts to over £10,000 annually. In monetary terms, the weekly increase amounts to approximately £7.15, or £371 annually, representing a meaningful improvement for many recipients.

Eligibility for PIP requires claimants to have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability that affects their ability to perform daily tasks or move around. These difficulties must have been present for at least three months prior to applying and be expected to continue for at least nine months.

To qualify, applicants must be between 16 years old and below State Pension age. While new claims cannot be made after reaching State Pension age, existing claimants can continue receiving PIP.

Those interested in applying or updating their claim can contact the DWP at 0800 917 2222 (textphone 0800 917 7777). In Northern Ireland, the PIP Centre is available at 0800 012 1573 (textphone 0800 012 1574). Applications can be made by phone or by post if telephone use is difficult; a third party may call on behalf of the claimant but must be present.

This forthcoming increase is a welcome development for many relying on PIP support, reflecting the DWP’s ongoing commitment to assisting people with disabilities and long-term health challenges.
