DWP Launches 80 New Youth Hubs to Boost Employment Opportunities for Young People Born 2002-2010

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has unveiled a major initiative aimed at helping young people move from benefits into employment. Central to this plan is the launch of 80 new Youth Hubs across Great Britain, designed to deliver comprehensive support for individuals aged 16 to 24 – those born between 2002 and 2010.

These Youth Hubs serve as community-focused centres where Jobcentre Plus, local authorities, employers, and training providers collaborate under one roof. This integrated approach offers tailored support, from job searching to skills development, helping young people navigate the path to meaningful employment or education.

In a significant partnership, the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Trust will work alongside the DWP to deliver many of these hubs, leveraging football clubs and their community trusts as familiar, welcoming environments. This collaboration recognizes the role football plays in fostering community spirit and engagement among young people.

Labour Party Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden highlighted the importance of this nationwide effort: “Today marks a major boost for young people with 80 new Youth Hubs and Scotland’s first Youth Guarantee Jobs Fair driving opportunity. We are delivering support in every region, connecting young people with employers, and meeting them where they are so they can move into work, as we reform the welfare state into a working state. This is about breaking down barriers, opening doors and ensuring every young person can earn or learn, wherever they live.”

SPFL Trust Chief Executive Nicky Reid added, “We’re extremely proud to have been chosen to deliver these vital Youth Hubs in partnership with the DWP across the country. Football clubs and their associated community trusts are places where many young people feel a strong sense of connection, making them a natural fit for this programme. These initiatives will play a crucial role in helping participants access the training and support they need to take the next step in their careers or education.”

With these new Youth Hubs, the government aims to create more accessible pathways into employment and learning for young people, fostering local opportunities directly within their communities.
