Brownhills Secures Up to £20 Million in Government Funding Boost

Brownhills has been selected as one of 40 new neighbourhoods to benefit from the government’s Pride in Place programme, receiving up to £20 million to support community-led regeneration. Announced by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government on March 20, this funding aims to empower residents to develop locally-driven solutions tailored to their area’s unique needs, rather than top-down directives from Whitehall.

This marks the second neighbourhood in Walsall to join the initiative, following Blakenall’s inclusion in last year’s cohort. Alongside 284 other communities across the UK, Brownhills will receive crucial financial support to revitalize and strengthen its neighbourhood.

Communities Secretary Steve Reed emphasized the programme’s grassroots approach: “Across the country, people often feel a lack of investment and connection in their local areas. Pride in Place changes that by putting resources directly into the hands of the community, because strong neighbourhoods are built by the people who live there.”

Councillor Matt Ward, Walsall’s Labour group leader, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity: “This £20 million investment represents a significant commitment to Brownhills. It empowers local residents to take control, shape their community, and restore a genuine sense of pride.”
