British Tourists Tragically Drown at Shellharbour Beach During Family Visit in Australia

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded at Shellharbour Beach in Shell Cove, New South Wales, when a British couple visiting family drowned while swimming. The 66-year-old man and 64-year-old woman were enjoying their holiday on Wednesday, March 11, when their visit took a devastating turn.

Shortly after 11 a.m. local time, emergency services were alerted after reports that two swimmers were struggling in the water. The beach, situated two hours south of Sydney, quickly became the center of a rescue effort.

Members of the public pulled the couple from the water, and two off-duty female nurses immediately began administering CPR. Paramedics arrived promptly to continue lifesaving attempts.

Despite the heroic efforts of both the bystanders and emergency personnel, the couple could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene. Family members were present during the ordeal, offering a poignant reminder of the incident’s profound impact.

The NSW Police praised the quick actions of the off-duty nurses and a young man who assisted in the rescue. “This is a tragic incident and our heart goes out to the family,” a spokesperson said.

An official report will be prepared for the coroner to investigate the circumstances of the drowning.
