Birmingham Braces for 12 Hours of Snow and Plummeting Temperatures

Birmingham is set to experience a significant snow event lasting up to 12 hours before the end of January, according to the latest weather forecasts. New meteorological charts reveal that heavy snow will sweep across Birmingham and several other major cities in the UK between late January and early February.

The snowstorm is expected to begin on the evening of January 30, with a band of wintry weather advancing from the southwest towards the Midlands by 6pm. Alongside the snow, temperatures could plummet to as low as -8C in some areas.

While the Midlands, including Birmingham, will face the brunt of the snowfall initially, the heavy snow is forecast to spread eastward, reaching London by midnight. By 6am on January 31, the most intense snowfall is predicted to move further southeast, impacting the Home Counties and parts of London.

According to the BBC Weather forecast, the rest of the week will remain wet and windy, with relatively mild temperatures and any wintry precipitation largely limited to higher ground. Strong winds are likely in southwest England on Wednesday and Friday.

A shift in weather patterns is expected over the weekend as high pressure builds over Scandinavia and northern parts of the UK. This will cause winds to change direction, bringing colder, easterly air and causing temperatures to drop to or slightly below average by Sunday.

The forecast also notes that conditions will become generally drier, though occasional showers may persist, particularly in the southwest, along eastern and northeastern coasts, and across northern Scotland, with some showers turning wintry.

Colder weather will continue to develop heading into next week, with temperatures remaining below average and some wintry precipitation expected. However, the duration of this cold spell remains uncertain, with milder conditions anticipated to intermittently affect the Southwest before becoming more widespread again by mid-February.
